What are the typical symptoms of hepatitis A?
Disease description:
Recently, I've had a poor appetite and sometimes experience vomiting after meals. Could this mean I have contracted Hepatitis A? What are the common symptoms of Hepatitis A?
Hepatitis A, also known as Hepatitis A virus infection, is an acute liver inflammation caused by the Hepatitis A virus. Its main symptoms usually present suddenly with fever, accompanied by chills and general weakness, which often serve as prodromal symptoms of the disease. Subsequently, patients gradually develop apparent gastrointestinal symptoms, such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, diarrhea, or constipation. These symptoms occur due to impaired liver function affecting bile secretion and digestive enzyme production. Additionally, common signs of Hepatitis A include jaundice, characterized by yellowing of the skin and sclera (white of the eyes), and darkened urine resembling strong tea. This occurs because the liver cannot properly process bilirubin, leading to its accumulation in the body and excretion through urine. Some patients may also experience pain in the liver area and hepatomegaly (enlarged liver). If you have any concerns, please consult a relevant healthcare professional.
