Gum bleeding may be an early sign of periodontal disease, especially gingivitis. Gingivitis is caused by the accumulation of bacteria around the teeth forming dental plaque, leading to inflammation of the gums. Early symptoms include redness, swelling, tenderness of the gums, and bleeding during light brushing or eating hard foods. If left untreated, it may develop into more severe periodontal diseases, such as periodontitis, which can result in loss of tooth-supporting tissues and even tooth loosening and loss.

Gum bleeding can also indicate other systemic diseases such as blood disorders, including leukemia, diabetes, vitamin C deficiency, or certain medication side effects. Due to hormonal changes, pregnant women may develop pregnancy gingivitis, characterized by swollen and bleeding gums.

In daily care, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing teeth at least twice daily and using dental floss to clean food debris between teeth. If gum bleeding persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, prompt medical attention should be sought.
