Disease description:

Teeth are the hardest parts of the human body, and being without teeth can indeed cause many inconveniences. Toothaches can also be extremely painful. I would like to ask the doctor: how many teeth does a person have?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Liu Chao

Under normal circumstances, a person has between 28 and 32 teeth. This includes both deciduous (baby) teeth and permanent teeth. Specifically:

1. Deciduous teeth: During infancy, 20 deciduous teeth erupt. These baby teeth begin to be gradually replaced by permanent teeth at around age 6.

2. Permanent teeth: Permanent teeth are the adult teeth, and normally there are 28 of them. However, some people may develop additional teeth after reaching adulthood, known as wisdom teeth. These four wisdom teeth are located at the very back of the mouth, one in each quadrant (upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right). Therefore, if these four wisdom teeth erupt, the total number of teeth a person has can reach 32.

It should be noted that not everyone develops wisdom teeth, and even when they do erupt, they may fail to fully emerge due to insufficient space or other factors. The timing and number of erupting wisdom teeth can also vary among individuals.
