Disease description:

I am 23 years old, female. Recently, I heard that the cervical cancer vaccine can prevent certain gynecological diseases, so I would like to get vaccinated. May I ask, doctor, what are the age ranges for the quadrivalent and nonavalent cervical vaccines, respectively?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Zhao Xiaodong

The age restrictions for receiving the quadrivalent and nonavalent cervical cancer vaccines differ slightly.

1. Quadrivalent cervical vaccine: It is suitable for females aged 9 to 45 years. This vaccine primarily targets infections from four high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV), specifically HPV 6, 11, 16, and 18, and can prevent approximately 84.5% of HPV infections, thereby reducing the risk of cervical cancer.

2. Nonavalent cervical vaccine: It has a broader age range for vaccination, from 9 to 45 years. The nonavalent vaccine covers nine HPV subtypes: HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58, and can prevent approximately 92% of HPV infections. The recommended optimal age for receiving the nonavalent vaccine is 11 to 12 years; however, individuals aged 9 to 45 who have not previously been vaccinated or who have not completed the full vaccine series can still receive catch-up vaccinations.

Before receiving the cervical vaccine, one should consult a doctor to understand personal health conditions and any contraindications for vaccination.
