What are the sequelae of tuberculous pleuritis?
Disease description:
I was diagnosed with tuberculous pleuritis a few days ago. Will there be any sequelae after recovery? What are the possible sequelae of tuberculous pleuritis?

If left untreated or inadequately treated, tuberculous pleuritis may result in a series of complications.
1. Encapsulated effusion may develop due to improper management of pleural exudative fluid accumulation, often accompanied by symptoms such as high fever, chest pain, and cough.
2. Tuberculous pleuritis may also lead to empyema, presenting as high fever, chills, severe chest tightness, and chest pain, which can significantly impair respiratory function.
3. Long-standing untreated tuberculous pleuritis may cause pleural calcification, potentially leading to malnutrition or chest wall collapse.
4. In rare cases, tuberculosis of the chest wall may occur, primarily due to incomplete treatment of encapsulated pleural effusion or secondary infection.
To prevent these complications, patients should receive timely and standardized treatment, including anti-tuberculosis drug therapy, thoracentesis for fluid drainage, and necessary surgical interventions. Additionally, attention should be given to nutritional support and adequate rest to promote recovery.
