What causes excessive vaginal discharge?
Recently, I have noticed an increase in vaginal discharge and I'm particularly concerned that I might have a gynecological condition. May I ask what could be causing this?
Increased vaginal discharge may be caused by various factors, mainly including physiological and pathological aspects. Physiologically, women may experience increased vaginal discharge during ovulation and pregnancy due to changes in sex hormone levels. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and generally not a cause for concern. Sexual stimulation can also lead to increased vaginal discharge. However, excessive vaginal discharge can also be a sign of pathological conditions. Common gynecological diseases such as vaginitis, cervicitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease can cause the affected areas to produce large amounts of inflammatory secretions due to irritation from inflammation, resulting in increased vaginal discharge, which may be accompanied by symptoms such as odor, itching, and pain. Cervical or intrauterine conditions such as cervical erosion and endometrial polyps, as well as foreign body irritation (e.g., an intrauterine device), can also cause increased vaginal discharge. In rare cases, excessive vaginal discharge may also be associated with malignant tumors such as cervical cancer or endometrial cancer.
When increased vaginal discharge is accompanied by discomfort or other symptoms, prompt medical evaluation is recommended.
