Can vision be restored after developing myopia?
Disease description:
I suspect it's due to frequently staying up late. My eyes are somewhat nearsighted, but the prescription isn't high. I'd like to ask the doctor: can vision loss from nearsightedness be reversed?
Once myopia occurs, vision usually cannot return to completely normal naturally. However, vision can be improved through the following methods:
1. Eyeglasses or contact lenses: Wearing optical corrective lenses can help adjust the focus of light so that images are clearly projected onto the retina, thereby improving vision.
2. Laser surgery: Procedures such as LASIK or PRK correct vision by reshaping the cornea and are suitable for qualified adults.
3. Progressive multifocal glasses: For middle-aged and elderly individuals, these glasses provide clear vision at various distances and reduce dependence on myopia correction.
4. Vision therapy: Although evidence is limited, specific eye exercises and visual therapies may help improve accommodative function in certain cases.
Regular eye examinations are important, especially for children and adolescents, as rapidly progressing myopia can lead to other eye problems, such as amblyopia or retinopathy. Maintaining good eye habits can also help prevent the onset and progression of myopia.
