Can floaters in the eye heal on their own?
Disease description:
I'm really getting older, and due to frequently looking at computers, I've developed floaters in my eyes. I'd like to ask, can floaters heal on their own?
Floaters, often referred to as small black spots or transparent thread-like objects seen in the visual field, are caused by opacities in the vitreous humor inside the eye. In most cases, floaters are harmless and are particularly common among middle-aged and elderly individuals as well as those with myopia. This condition is known as "physiological floaters" and often resolves spontaneously without specific treatment. It may be caused by aging or natural changes within the eye.
However, if floaters suddenly worsen and are accompanied by flashes of light, shadows in the visual field, or a sense of darkness or curtain-like obstruction, this could indicate "pathological floaters," which might be early signs of serious eye conditions such as retinal tears or detachment. In such cases, immediate medical attention is essential, as these conditions require prompt intervention to prevent vision loss.
If you have any concerns, consult a healthcare professional who can evaluate the nature of the floaters through specialized examination and provide appropriate advice.
