I was diagnosed with glaucoma myself, and it's really concerning. I'd like to ask the doctor, what causes glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a disease that causes vision loss due to elevated intraocular pressure or damage to the optic nerve. Its main causes include: 1. Impaired aqueous humor circulation: Aqueous humor within the eye is produced by the ciliary body, flows through the pupil into the anterior chamber, and is ultimately drained into blood vessels via the trabecular meshwork system. If this circulation is obstructed, such as due to reduced function of the trabecular meshwork or new blood vessels within the eye blocking the outflow, the drainage of aqueous humor decreases and intraocular pressure rises. 2. Anatomical factors: Some people may have eye structures that make them more prone to developing glaucoma. For example, a small corneal diameter, narrow anterior chamber angle, or thick lens may increase resistance to aqueous humor outflow. 3. Genetic factors: Glaucoma has a certain hereditary tendency; individuals with a family history of glaucoma have a higher risk of developing the disease. 4. Age: As people age, ocular tissues gradually age as well, which may affect aqueous humor circulation and increase the risk of developing glaucoma. 5. Association with other diseases: Individuals with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or myopia are also more likely to develop glaucoma. Please note that if you experience any eye discomfort, such as a feeling of pressure in the eye, narrowing of the visual field, or vision loss, you should seek medical attention immediately.
