What causes redness and bloodshot eyes?
Disease description:
I'm not sure if it's because I've been staying up late a lot recently, but there are many red blood vessels in my eyes. I really want to ask, what causes excessive red blood vessels in the eyes?
Redness in the eyes, commonly referred to as bloodshot eyes, is usually caused by dilation or congestion of the blood vessels on the eye's surface. This condition can have several possible causes:
1. Conjunctivitis: Inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by bacteria, viruses, or allergens, often accompanied by redness, swelling, itching, and increased eye discharge.
2. Dry Eye Syndrome: Insufficient quantity or poor quality of tears leading to dryness of the eye surface, causing irritation and dilation of blood vessels.
3. Eye Fatigue and Overuse: Prolonged periods of staring at computer screens, mobile devices, or reading can cause eye fatigue and blood vessel congestion.
4. Eye Injury: Minor trauma or scratches to the eye area may cause blood vessels to rupture, resulting in visible bloodshot eyes.
5. Allergic Reactions: Allergies to dust, pollen, cosmetics, or other substances can cause redness in the eyes.
Note: If the redness persists, is accompanied by vision loss, pain, or discharge, prompt medical attention is advised.
