Why does the sole of the foot hurt and itch at the same time?
Disease description:
Recently, the soles of my feet have been very painful and itchy. What could be causing this combination of pain and itching on the soles of my feet?
Itching and pain on the soles of the feet can be caused by several factors:
1. Fungal infection is a common cause, especially when the feet are in a moist, poorly ventilated environment. Fungi can easily proliferate, leading to athlete's foot (tinea pedis), which is accompanied by itching and pain.
2. Foot eczema may also cause similar symptoms. This is usually related to the feet remaining in a damp condition for prolonged periods, wearing non-breathable shoes and socks, or infrequent washing.
3. Contact dermatitis can also lead to itching and pain on the soles of the feet. This typically occurs due to poor quality shoe or sock materials or contact with other allergenic substances.
To relieve these symptoms, it is recommended that patients keep their feet clean and dry, choose breathable shoes and socks, and change and wash them frequently. If symptoms persist, timely medical consultation is advised for professional diagnosis and treatment.
