How to use a thermometer
Disease description:
I haven't been feeling well lately and want to buy a thermometer to check my body temperature. I was wondering, how do you use a thermometer?
The instructions for using a thermometer are as follows:
1. Ensure the thermometer is intact and clean. For mercury thermometers, check that the mercury column is below 35°C; for digital thermometers, turn on the device to perform a self-check.
2. Choose an appropriate measurement method according to the measurement site (e.g., oral, axillary, or rectal). Before measurement, avoid eating, drinking, or engaging in strenuous activity to ensure accuracy.
3. For axillary measurement as an example, place the metal tip of the thermometer under the armpit, ensuring it is in close contact with the skin. Bend the arm across the chest to hold the thermometer securely and maintain this position for 5-10 minutes.
4. After the time is up, remove the thermometer and read the temperature. For digital thermometers, there is usually a beep sound or a displayed reading indicating completion of the measurement.
5. Determine whether the body temperature is normal based on the result. If abnormal, seek medical attention promptly.
