Rickets, also known as osteomalacia, is primarily caused by vitamin D deficiency leading to abnormal calcium and phosphorus metabolism, which subsequently affects bone development. Whether rickets can be cured depends on the severity of the condition and the timeliness of treatment.

In general, early detection and timely supplementation of vitamin D and calcium, ensuring adequate calcium intake, can lead to a full recovery from rickets. If the condition is severe and bone deformities such as bowlegs (O-shaped legs) or knock knees (X-shaped legs) have already occurred, these changes are mostly irreversible and difficult to completely cure.

For rickets, early detection, early diagnosis, and prompt treatment usually yield good therapeutic outcomes, especially in children, whose bones can reshape, reducing or eliminating bone deformities. For adults, particularly those with significant existing bone changes, treatment may focus more on symptom relief and preventing further bone damage.

If you have concerns or symptoms, seek medical attention promptly to avoid treatment delays.
