Can gonorrhea be cured?
Disease description:
My genital area is swollen and bleeding. After examination, I was diagnosed with gonorrhea. I'm very worried and want to know if gonorrhea can be cured?
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease primarily caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, commonly presenting symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, painful urination, and increased discharge. In most cases, gonorrhea can be cured, although there are situations where treatment may be unsuccessful.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a bacterial pathogen that requires antibiotic treatment, such as ceftriaxone sodium for injection, cefotaxime sodium for injection, or levofloxacin hydrochloride capsules. Most gonococcal infections have minimal impact on the body, and with timely treatment after diagnosis, the infection can generally be cured.
However, if gonorrhea becomes severe and leads to serious complications such as infertility, urethral stricture, or blindness due to delayed treatment, it may become difficult to cure.
Importantly, to prevent gonorrhea, it is essential to practice safe sex, such as using condoms, and to undergo regular sexual health screenings. If any symptoms suggestive of gonorrhea occur, such as painful urination, difficulty urinating, or abnormal discharge, immediate medical attention should be sought. Self-medication is not recommended.
