Why does melasma darken after treatment and what can be done about it?
Disease description:
I am 42 years old and have recently experienced postoperative hyperpigmentation (rebound pigmentation) after melasma treatment. I would like to know why hyperpigmentation occurs after melasma treatment and what can be done about it?

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after melasma treatment may be related to multiple factors, including post-treatment pigmentation, post-inflammatory pigmentation, and impaired skin barrier function. To address this issue, the following measures can be taken:
1. Mild hyperpigmentation: Usually requires no special treatment. Strengthen sun protection, avoid UV exposure, and the condition may resolve spontaneously over time.
2. Medication treatment: Under a physician's guidance, use skin-lightening products containing ingredients such as vitamin C and arbutin, or apply hydroquinone cream to reduce pigmentation.
3. Cosmetic procedures: If hyperpigmentation is severe, consider repeat laser treatment or opt for other aesthetic treatments such as chemical peels or intense pulsed light therapy to improve skin appearance.
4. Daily skincare: Maintain a light diet and consume more foods rich in vitamins C and E. Avoid excessive intake of spicy or highly pigmented foods. Additionally, maintain good sleep habits, go to bed early, wake up early, and ensure adequate sleep to support skin repair and metabolism.
If necessary, seek timely medical attention for targeted treatment.
