Dr. Xu Shuai
The effectiveness of fasting running varies from person to person, but it is generally not recommended as a regular practice. Exercising on an empty stomach may lead to low blood sugar levels, especially for individuals with diabetes or a tendency toward hypoglycemia, potentially causing weakness, dizziness, or even fainting. Fasting exercise may also accelerate muscle breakdown, as the body seeks energy sources and may utilize muscle protein in the absence of sufficient carbohydrates. It is advisable to consume some easily digestible carbohydrates, such as bananas or oatmeal, before exercising to provide immediate energy and prevent fatigue during physical activity. If you are accustomed to morning runs, consider drinking a glass of water after waking up and waiting a short while before engaging in light exercise, or consume foods rich in complex carbohydrates the night before to ensure sufficient energy for the next morning.
