I've recently developed pimples on my face. A friend told me that Ten-Drop-Water (Shi Di Shui) might help, and I also heard that metronidazole could be effective. I'm wondering, is it true that Ten-Drop-Water and metronidazole gel can treat acne?

Regarding the question of whether Shidi Shui (Ten-Drop Water) and Metronidazole Gel can remove pimples, it should be viewed separately: Shidi Shui primarily is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation used for relieving heat and strengthening the spleen. Its diluted solution can dissolve sebum within pores, helping to expel sebaceous secretions. With the assistance of facial cleansers, it may help reduce sebum and thus decrease the occurrence of pimples, but it cannot directly remove existing pimples. Additionally, the main ingredients of Shidi Shui include camphor, dried ginger, rhubarb, fennel, cinnamon, as well as chili pepper and eucalyptus oil, which may cause certain skin irritation. Therefore, caution should be exercised during application to avoid skin irritation or allergic reactions. Metronidazole Gel, on the other hand, is a medication with activity against anaerobic bacteria and is primarily used for treating bacterial vaginitis and trichomoniasis. In terms of acne treatment, Metronidazole Gel mainly helps reduce inflammation and inhibit bacterial growth, thereby assisting in the resolution of pimples. However, using Metronidazole Gel alone cannot directly remove pimples, especially in cases of severe acne where its effectiveness may be limited. Furthermore, its anti-inflammatory effect on acne is also limited.
