Dr. He Haochen
Although saffron has various medicinal values, it is not suitable for everyone. The following groups should use saffron cautiously or avoid it altogether: 1. Pregnant women: Saffron can stimulate the uterus and promote uterine contractions. High doses of saffron may increase the risk of miscarriage; therefore, pregnant women should use it cautiously or avoid it entirely. 2. Women during menstruation: Saffron promotes blood circulation and removes blood stasis. Using saffron during menstruation may lead to excessive menstrual bleeding and potentially cause anemia; thus, women during their menstrual period should use it cautiously. 3. Patients with hemorrhagic disorders: Due to its strong effect in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, saffron may exacerbate or induce bleeding symptoms. Individuals with bleeding tendencies or women with excessive menstrual bleeding should avoid its use. 4. Individuals with weak constitutions: This group often suffers from qi and blood deficiency. Using saffron to promote blood circulation may further deplete qi and blood, which is detrimental to health.
