What causes tailbone pain?
Disease description:
I have been experiencing pain in my coccyx area for the past two days. I would like to ask the doctor, what could be causing coccyx pain?

Tailbone pain can be caused by various reasons, including but not limited to the following:
1. Trauma: The most common cause is falling or sitting on a hard surface, leading to injury of the tailbone. This type of pain typically worsens when sitting or during prolonged driving.
2. Tailbone fracture: Minor fractures or cracks can occur even without a clear history of trauma, especially in elderly individuals.
3. Sciatica: Although primarily affecting the lower back and buttocks, compression of the sciatic nerve may also cause pain in the tailbone area.
4. Infection or inflammation: Infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease or perianal infections can spread to the tailbone region and cause pain.
If the pain persists, seek medical attention promptly.
