Coccydynia, also known as tailbone pain, can be caused by various factors. Common causes include: 1. Poor sitting posture: Prolonged sitting, especially on hard seats, may increase pressure in the coccygeal area and cause pain. 2. Injury or fracture: Falls, bicycle accidents, or trauma can lead to coccygeal injury. 3. Infection or inflammation: Pelvic infections or perianal abscesses may also involve the coccygeal region, causing pain. 4. Spinal problems: Conditions such as sciatica or spinal cord diseases may cause referred pain to the coccyx. If the pain persists, is severe, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty with bowel movements, fever, or weight loss, prompt medical attention is advised.
