Diazepam, also known as Valium, is a long-acting benzodiazepine drug and belongs to the class of central nervous system depressants. It primarily works by stimulating gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, enhancing the inhibitory effects of GABA on the central nervous system, thereby exerting multiple therapeutic effects.

Specifically, diazepam has sedative-hypnotic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, antiepileptic, and skeletal muscle relaxant properties. Clinically, it is widely used in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety disorders, epilepsy, convulsions, and also can be used for pre-anesthetic medication and emergency treatment in cases of local anesthetic toxicity. However, diazepam is classified as a Schedule II psychotropic substance and is strictly controlled. It must be used under the guidance of a physician to avoid side effects and addiction caused by overdose or misuse.

If any discomfort or questions arise, prompt medical consultation is recommended.
