How is knee joint effusion treated?
Disease description:
Recently, there has been some fluid accumulation in my knee area, causing a small bulge. What should I do?

Knee effusion, commonly referred to as fluid accumulation in the knee joint, is caused by abnormal increases in joint fluid due to conditions such as arthritis, synovitis, ligament injuries, or tumors. The following are general management steps:
1. Rest and ice application: Reduce physical activity to avoid further stress on the knee. Applying ice packs can help alleviate swelling and pain.
2. Pain relief and anti-inflammatory medications: Over-the-counter drugs such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help relieve pain and inflammation, but should be used according to medical advice.
3. Joint aspiration: If there is excessive fluid accumulation, a doctor may perform joint aspiration to remove the fluid, relieve pressure, and send the fluid for laboratory analysis to determine the underlying cause.
4. Physical therapy: Includes heat application, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation exercises to strengthen muscle power, stabilize the joint, and prevent further injury.
If pain persists or fluid accumulation recurs, prompt medical attention is advised to avoid delaying treatment.
