Why does the tendon behind the knee hurt?
Disease description:
Recently, I have often felt a soreness in the back of my knees, especially in the tendons. May I ask, what causes the soreness and pain in the tendons at the back of the knee?
Pain behind the knee, typically involving the popliteal fossa (also known as the posterior knee area), may be caused by various factors, including:
1. Muscle strain or fatigue: Overuse of the leg muscles, such as prolonged running or engaging in high-intensity exercise, may lead to fatigue or strain of the muscles around the popliteal fossa.
2. Hamstring tendonitis: This is caused by inflammation of the hamstring tendons and is usually the result of repetitive motion or overuse.
3. Compression of the sciatic nerve: The sciatic nerve extends from the spinal cord down the leg, and if compressed in the popliteal region, it may cause pain.
4. Bursitis: Bursae around the joints help reduce friction. When these sacs become inflamed, it can lead to pain and swelling.
To relieve the pain, you may try applying ice, resting, avoiding strenuous activities, and appropriately stretching and strengthening the affected muscles. However, if the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by symptoms such as swelling, redness, warmth, or numbness, you should seek medical attention promptly.
