Disease description:

I received the hepatitis B vaccine when I was a child. Now that I'm older, I don't know whether the vaccine is still effective. I'd like to ask if it's necessary to receive a booster shot after having received the hepatitis B vaccine.

After completing the full vaccination schedule (usually three doses), most people develop effective protective antibodies, known as hepatitis B surface antibodies (HBsAb). If high levels of HBsAb are detected after vaccination, this indicates immunity has been established, and generally no additional booster doses are needed. However, the following situations may warrant consideration for hepatitis B vaccine booster shots:

1. Inadequate immune response: Some individuals may fail to produce sufficient antibodies after vaccination, and physicians may recommend additional doses.

2. High-risk exposure: If one's occupation or lifestyle involves a higher risk of exposure to the hepatitis B virus (e.g., healthcare workers, intravenous drug users, or individuals with multiple sexual partners), regular monitoring of antibody levels and booster vaccinations as needed are recommended.

3. Declining immunity: As people age, immune function may weaken, and certain individuals may require booster doses to maintain protection.

If you have concerns, it is recommended to seek medical advice promptly.
