Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Huang Shichang
The causes of facial nerve twitching are mainly divided into physiological and pathological categories: 1. Physiological factors: Prolonged psychological stress or long-term sleep deprivation may induce transient nerve impulses, leading to involuntary twitching of the facial muscles. Irregular eating habits or consuming large amounts of raw, cold, or irritating foods may increase facial nerve impulses, causing facial muscle spasms. 2. Pathological factors: Vascular cross-compression of the facial nerve root, commonly involving the posterior inferior cerebellar artery, anterior inferior cerebellar artery, etc. Granulomas, cysts, and other lesions in the cerebellopontine angle area may also compress the facial nerve, causing involuntary facial twitching. Severe trauma, tooth extraction, exposure to extreme cold, and other stimulating conditions may cause pain that disrupts neurotransmitter balance, resulting in facial muscle twitching. Brain tumors, facial neuritis, trigeminal neuralgia, and other conditions may also lead to facial nerve twitching.
