It is very common for adolescents to develop acne during puberty, a specific stage of growth and development. During puberty, hormonal changes—especially an increase in androgens—stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. If this oil is not promptly expelled, it can easily block the hair follicles, leading to the formation of comedones (blackheads or whiteheads). Additionally, during puberty the skin's keratin turnover rate increases. Improper cleansing or bacterial infection may trigger inflammation, resulting in acne, commonly known as pimples. Therefore, adolescents should not be overly worried or feel self-conscious, as acne is simply part of the growth process. Maintaining a balanced diet, keeping the skin clean, avoiding squeezing pimples, and seeking professional medical advice when necessary are all effective ways to manage acne.
