Disease description:

I've had some insomnia these past couple of days, so the TCM physician prescribed me silk tree flowers (Albizia flowers) to steep in hot water and drink at home. However, after consuming it, I felt very nauseous, possibly due to an allergic reaction. Therefore, I would like to ask whether it is possible to have an allergic reaction to silk tree flowers (Albizia flowers).

Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Albizia flower may potentially cause allergic reactions. As the flower of a plant, albizia has various medicinal values, such as relieving depression, calming the mind, promoting blood circulation, and reducing swelling. However, like other medications or plants, albizia flower may also trigger allergic reactions. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include skin itching, pain, redness, and swelling; gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea and vomiting; or respiratory allergies such as wheezing and difficulty breathing. The severity of these symptoms varies from person to person and depends on individual constitution and the intensity of the allergic reaction. Therefore, it is recommended to perform an allergy test before using albizia flower or related products, especially for individuals with known allergic tendencies. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical assistance. Additionally, the use of albizia flower should be conducted under the guidance of a physician to ensure its safety and effectiveness.
