Drinking an appropriate amount of water before bedtime usually does not cause edema. However, excessive water intake at night may affect the kidneys' ability to excrete urine, leading to mild morning swelling in the face, hands, or feet. Maintaining proper hydration habits and avoiding excessive fluid consumption in the evening can help reduce the risk of edema.

Edema is also commonly associated with kidney function, heart disease, liver problems, or thyroid disorders. If morning swelling occurs frequently, it is important to monitor for accompanying symptoms such as high blood pressure, fatigue, or unexplained weight gain. If concerned, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly.
