Early symptoms of esophageal cancer
Disease description:
May I ask, my cousin is 56 years old this year, and she often suspects she has developed esophageal cancer but refuses to go to the hospital for an examination. I would like to ask about the early symptoms of esophageal cancer?

Early-stage esophageal cancer may not cause obvious symptoms. However, as the disease progresses, the following signs may appear:
1. **Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia):** Initially, there may be a sensation of food getting stuck while swallowing solid foods. As the condition worsens, even swallowing liquids or saliva may become difficult.
2. **Discomfort behind the breastbone:** Patients may experience pain or a burning sensation behind the breastbone, sometimes resembling symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
3. **Foreign body sensation in the throat:** A feeling that something is stuck in the throat, which is difficult to relieve.
4. **Weight loss:** Resulting from reduced appetite and inadequate nutrient intake due to difficulty swallowing.
5. **Hoarseness:** The tumor may affect the vocal cords.
Note: If the above symptoms persist, it is important to seek medical attention for evaluation as soon as possible.
