What is breast hyperplasia?
Disease description:
Recently, I have been experiencing pain around my breast area, and I can feel a hard lump. The doctor diagnosed it as mammary hyperplasia. I would like to know, what is mammary hyperplasia?
Fibrocystic breast disease, commonly known as breast hyperplasia, is a common condition affecting women, primarily those of childbearing age. It is not a tumor, nor is it considered a normal physiological state. Breast hyperplasia results from hormonal fluctuations, particularly of estrogen and progesterone, within the body. This condition involves abnormal proliferation of breast tissue under the influence of endocrine and physiological factors, leading to breast tissue enlargement, nodule formation, fibrosis, and associated symptoms such as breast lumps and distension pain. Breast hyperplasia is a benign condition, most commonly seen in women of reproductive age, especially those between 30 and 50 years old, and is mainly influenced by changes in estrogen and progesterone levels, as well as lifestyle and genetic factors.
The goal of treating breast hyperplasia is to relieve symptoms. Treatment generally includes lifestyle modifications such as reducing caffeine intake, maintaining regular sleep patterns, wearing comfortable undergarments, and, when necessary, pharmacological therapy. If nodules are large or symptoms are severe, surgical treatment may be required.
