Dr. Li Jingxiang
The treatment of proctitis can mainly be carried out in the following aspects: 1. Adjusting lifestyle: Maintain a regular schedule and avoid staying up late; eat a nutritionally balanced and bland diet, avoiding spicy and irritating foods such as chili peppers and seafood. Drink plenty of water and consume more rice porridge, fruits, whole grains, and high-fiber foods to alleviate constipation and reduce irritation to the rectal mucosa. 2. Local treatment: Enema therapy can be used, such as rectal retention enema with Compound Phellodendron Liquid around the anus to reduce inflammation and swelling. Additionally, microwave therapy around the anus and Chinese herbal fumigation/washing (e.g., Wu Bei Zi Tang or Ku Shen Tang) are also effective treatments that can clear heat, remove dampness, relieve swelling, and detoxify. 3. Medication treatment: Depending on the condition, oral antibiotics or probiotics such as Bifidobacterium Triphasic Live Capsules may be used. The former is used to treat intestinal infections, while the latter helps regulate gut flora imbalance. If proctitis is caused by hemorrhoid infection, hemorrhoid ointment, hemorrhoid suppositories, or warm saline sitz baths may be used. 4. Treatment of underlying diseases: If proctitis is caused by conditions such as hemorrhoids or rectal prolapse, treatment should be directed at the underlying disease—for example, hemorrhoid surgery or excision of prolapsed rectal mucosa. 5. Regular follow-up: After conservative and drug treatment, active outpatient follow-up should be conducted. If necessary, anoscopy should be performed to determine the progression of the disease.
