Will melasma disappear during menopause?
Disease description:
I have melasma on my face, and I am going through menopause. Will the melasma fade after menopause?
Whether melasma disappears during menopause varies from individual to individual. Due to decreased estrogen secretion, some women may notice lightening or improvement of melasma, possibly resulting from reduced pigmentation caused by hormonal changes. However, spontaneous resolution is not common, as melasma development is also influenced by factors such as sun exposure, genetic predisposition, weakened skin barrier function, chronic sleep deprivation, work-related stress, and anxiety. Therefore, whether melasma fades during menopause depends on individual physiological characteristics and environmental factors. If melasma persists or worsens, timely medical consultation is recommended, and appropriate treatment should be selected under a physician's guidance.
