Can women get jock itch?
Disease description:
I am 30 years old. Recently, I have experienced some itching and skin flaking in the groin area. After an examination, my family doctor diagnosed it as tinea cruris (jock itch). I would like to know whether women can also develop jock itch?
Women can also develop tinea cruris (jock itch). Tinea cruris is a fungal skin infection unrelated to gender, although it occurs more frequently in men. Causes of tinea cruris in women may include poor hygiene (such as underwear contaminated with fungi), sexual transmission, indirect infection through contact with items previously used by someone with tinea cruris (such as towels, basins, etc.), and prolonged wearing of tight clothing or localized moist and sweaty conditions due to obesity. Tinea cruris mainly presents as red papules, papulovesicles, or vesicles on the groin, inner thighs, and surrounding areas, accompanied by itching, with the affected area potentially expanding outward. Treatment requires appropriate antifungal medications and maintaining cleanliness and dryness of the affected skin. If symptoms are concerning or worsen, prompt medical consultation is advised.
