What causes white spots on the nails?
Disease description:
I have noticed that my nails are peeling and have white patches. I would like to know, what causes white patches to appear on the nails?
White spots on the nails may be caused by several different factors:
1. Nutritional deficiency: A lack of trace elements such as calcium, silicon, and zinc in the body may lead to white spots on the nails.
2. Poor hygiene habits: Long-term neglect or incomplete cleaning of the nails may lead to bacterial growth on the nails, resulting in white spots.
3. Anemia: Anemia refers to a reduced number of red blood cells in the body, which can prevent sufficient oxygen and nutrients from reaching the nails during their growth, leading to the appearance of white spots.
4. Fungal infection: Although uncommon, early-stage fungal infections of the nails may also present as white spots, accompanied by nail thinning, deformation, or color changes.
5. Skin diseases: Certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis or lichen planus, may affect the nails, causing white spots or lines.
6. Medication reaction: Some medications or chemotherapy treatments may cause changes in the nails, including the appearance of white spots.
