Whether to remove the tonsils in cases of generalized lymphadenopathy requires a comprehensive evaluation of multiple factors. Generalized lymphadenopathy may be associated with various conditions, such as infectious diseases or tumors. As an immune organ, the tonsils play a protective role in the body under normal circumstances. Therefore, when lymphadenopathy occurs, identifying the underlying cause and administering targeted treatment are essential. The decision on whether to remove the tonsils mainly depends on the pathological condition of the tonsils themselves and their impact on the body. If the tonsils experience recurrent inflammation or enlargement that affects breathing, swallowing, or leads to complications such as peritonsillar abscess, rheumatic fever, or nephritis, then tonsillectomy might be considered. However, if tonsillar enlargement does not significantly affect bodily functions and the tonsils are still able to perform their normal immunological functions, removal is generally not recommended.
