The main symptoms of cough variant asthma include:
1. Cough: Usually a dry cough or cough with small amounts of phlegm, which is the primary symptom of cough variant asthma. This cough may worsen at night or in the early morning and often occurs or intensifies after exposure to triggers such as exercise, cold air, pollen, or dust.
2. Shortness of breath or wheezing: During an asthma attack, the trachea and bronchi constrict, limiting airflow and causing shortness of breath or wheezing.
3. Chest tightness or chest pain: Due to narrowing of the trachea and bronchi, airflow within the lungs is impeded, which may lead to sensations of chest tightness or chest pain.
4. Difficulty breathing: Patients may experience a sensation of breathlessness triggered by certain factors. This difficulty breathing may progressively worsen and be accompanied by coughing and chest tightness.
