The optimal time for non-invasive DNA testing
I would like to ask, I am six months pregnant, and my doctor recommended that I undergo a non-invasive DNA test. There are too many tests to remember the timing for each one. I would like to know, what is the optimal timing for the non-invasive DNA test?
The optimal time for non-invasive DNA testing is between 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy, although theoretically it can be performed from 12 weeks up to 28 weeks of gestation. During this period, the concentration of fetal DNA in the mother's blood is moderate, resulting in higher test accuracy.
Performing the non-invasive DNA test too early may lead to inaccurate results due to insufficient fetal DNA concentration, while conducting it too late may limit the time available for follow-up procedures, thus affecting further diagnosis and management. Therefore, undergoing non-invasive DNA testing between 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy can better balance test accuracy and the time required for subsequent evaluation.
