What are the causes of axillary odor formation?
Disease description:
I have recently been experiencing persistent odor under my armpits and am concerned it might be axillary osmidrosis (body odor). What are the causes of axillary osmidrosis?
The main causes of axillary odor include:
1. Genetic factors: Axillary odor has a clear genetic predisposition and is considered an autosomal dominant hereditary condition. When one parent or a relative has axillary odor, the child has a relatively higher chance of developing it.
2. Endocrine factors: After entering puberty, the body gradually produces more sex hormones, leading to increased secretion from the apocrine sweat glands. These secretions may produce an odor when broken down by bacteria, resulting in axillary odor.
3. Lifestyle habits: Poor lifestyle habits, such as neglecting personal hygiene, not showering regularly, and not changing clothes frequently, can lead to bacterial growth. Bacterial breakdown of organic substances in sweat can produce unpleasant odors.
4. Physiological factors: Excessive secretion from apocrine sweat glands, particularly during summer or after physical activity, increases sweat production. If sweat cannot be effectively removed, it may easily lead to axillary odor.
