Will localized folliculitis resolve on its own?
Disease description:
I have a red pustule on my neck that is slightly itchy. After touching it with my hand, pus was discharged. The examination results showed that I have folliculitis. I would like to ask, can localized folliculitis heal by itself?
Folliculitis may resolve on its own in some cases, depending on the severity of the condition and the individual's immune status. Folliculitis is commonly caused by bacterial infections, such as those involving Staphylococcus aureus, and is associated with poor hygiene practices, decreased immunity, and other factors.
1. Mild folliculitis: If symptoms of folliculitis are mild and limited in number, and the patient maintains a balanced diet, regular作息 (作息 should be translated as "lifestyle routine"), avoids scratching the affected area, and keeps the skin clean and dry, it is possible for folliculitis to heal spontaneously through the body's immune response.
2. Severe folliculitis: If symptoms are severe, numerous, or if the patient does not maintain proper lifestyle habits leading to recurring or worsening symptoms, spontaneous healing is less likely. In such cases, active treatment measures should be taken, such as applying topical antibacterial medications (e.g., mupirocin ointment, fusidic acid cream), to prevent further deterioration of the condition.
