Will menopause occur after a D&C during perimenopause?

Disease description:

I had an unintended pregnancy and underwent an abortion followed by a curettage procedure. Since then, my menstrual cycle has remained irregular. I would like to ask, will undergoing curettage during perimenopause lead to menopause?

Dilation and curettage (D&C) during menopause generally does not directly cause menopause.

Menopause is a transitional period during which a woman's ovarian function gradually declines. D&C is primarily used to determine whether there are endometrial abnormalities or to control bleeding, and its mechanism is different from the physiological process of menopause. Menopause occurs due to a decline in ovarian hormone levels that is insufficient to stimulate endometrial proliferation and secretion, resulting in permanent cessation of menstruation.

The D&C procedure itself does not affect ovarian endocrine function, so it does not directly cause menopause. If the D&C causes severe damage to the basal layer of the endometrium and complications such as intrauterine adhesions occur, menstrual function may be affected, although such cases are rare. However, women undergoing menopause are already in a stage of declining ovarian function, and may experience irregular menstruation or amenorrhea. These changes are not directly related to the D&C procedure. If you have any concerns, please consult a physician.
