Disease description:

It started two days ago; I have been experiencing intermittent pain around my abdomen, which has made me feel very uncomfortable. I don't know what to do, so I came to ask the doctor: what are the causes of periumbilical abdominal pain in women?

Dr. Shen Yonghua
Abdominal pain around the navel in women can be caused by various factors. 1. Gastrointestinal issues are the most common causes, such as gastritis, gastric ulcers, intestinal spasms, or irritable bowel syndrome, which may lead to intermittent or persistent abdominal pain. 2. In the early stages, appendicitis may present with pain starting in the middle of the abdomen, which later shifts to the lower right quadrant as the condition progresses. 3. Intestinal infections or parasites may also cause periumbilical pain, often accompanied by symptoms such as diarrhea and fever. Gynecological conditions should not be overlooked either, including ovarian cysts, dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, or pelvic inflammatory disease, which may cause cyclical or non-cyclical abdominal pain. Additionally, inguinal hernias or muscle strains can also cause localized pain. If the pain is persistent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms (such as fever, vomiting, or changes in bowel habits), prompt medical attention is advised.
