Dr. Zhou Xiaofeng
Infant food accumulation, commonly referring to indigestion or food buildup in the gastrointestinal tract, may present with the following symptoms: 1. Abnormal emotional and behavioral changes: Preverbal infants cannot clearly express their discomfort and often express it through crying and fussing. 2. Abnormal facial appearance: Long-term food accumulation in infants can lead to malnutrition affecting growth and development, resulting in a sallow and emaciated appearance, as well as listlessness. 3. Gastrointestinal symptoms: Food accumulation can cause qi stagnation in the middle jiao (middle part of the body according to TCM theory), leading to abdominal distension, pain, belching, and other symptoms. 4. Other abnormal signs: Infant food accumulation can weaken the spleen and stomach's transforming and transporting functions, causing qi and blood deficiency that results in a yellowish complexion. Prolonged food accumulation can generate internal heat, which may rise upward and lead to fever.
