Etiology of Tinea Manuum and Tinea Pedis
Disease description:
I am 39 years old this year. My feet started to itch slightly at first, and now my hands are also itchy, with peeling skin. The doctor diagnosed it as tinea manuum/pedis (hand/foot fungus) and I would like to know what causes it—what are the etiological factors of tinea manuum/pedis?

Tinea manuum and tinea pedis are common dermatological conditions, and their causes include:
1. **Fungal infection**: These conditions are mainly caused by fungal infections, including dermatophytes and molds. The fungi spread through contact, such as sharing personal items like towels and slippers, or through direct contact with infected areas.
2. **Environmental factors**: Damp and sweaty environments provide favorable conditions for fungal growth. Therefore, the incidence of tinea manuum and tinea pedis increases during hot and humid seasons or when wearing non-breathable shoes and socks for prolonged periods.
3. **Personal factors**: Poor personal hygiene, weakened immune function, and skin damage can also increase the risk of developing tinea infections. For example, neglecting personal cleanliness, infrequent changing of shoes and socks, or having skin injuries may provide opportunities for fungal invasion.
4. **Genetic factors**: Tinea manuum and tinea pedis also have a certain genetic predisposition; individuals with a family history of these conditions are more susceptible to infection.
