What causes general weakness?
I have been experiencing general fatigue recently, and at times it has even affected my work. May I ask what causes general fatigue?
Generalized fatigue is a common nonspecific symptom that may be the body's response to illness, tiredness, or stress. The following are some possible causes of generalized fatigue:
1. Infections: Viral infections such as influenza, mononucleosis, and bacterial infections such as pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
2. Chronic diseases: Including diabetes, thyroid disorders (hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism), anemia, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, and cancer.
3. Lifestyle factors: Excessive work and strenuous exercise can lead to insufficient energy supply and cause fatigue.
4. Sleep problems: Inadequate or poor-quality sleep is also a common cause of generalized fatigue, which can affect physical recovery and energy levels over time.
5. Medication side effects: Certain medications, such as antidepressants and antihypertensive drugs, may cause fatigue as a side effect.
6. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective: Factors described in TCM theory, such as liver disorders and spleen-stomach weakness, may also manifest as symptoms of generalized fatigue.
If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical evaluation is recommended.
