What are the causes of cholangitis?
Experiencing diarrhea every day, with abdominal pain from the frequent bowel movements, a sensation of incomplete evacuation, and frequent acid reflux, I was diagnosed with cholangioenteritis. Could you please explain what causes cholangioenteritis?
Cholecystenteritis usually refers to inflammation of the biliary system (including the gallbladder and bile ducts) and the intestines. The causes of cholecystenteritis are diverse, mainly including:
1. Pathogenic infection: Various pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, or parasites, may invade the biliary tract or intestine through different routes, leading to an inflammatory response.
2. Cholelithiasis: Formation of stones in the gallbladder or bile ducts can obstruct the biliary tract, impair bile flow, and allow bacteria to multiply within the biliary system, causing infection and inflammation.
3. Irregular eating habits: Poor dietary habits, such as long-term consumption of greasy, spicy foods or overeating, may increase the burden on the biliary tract and intestines, triggering cholecystenteritis.
4. Medication factors: The use of certain medications may provoke reactions in the biliary system, leading to cholecystenteritis.
5. Autoimmune diseases: Primary sclerosing cholangitis, for example, is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation and fibrosis of the bile ducts.
6. Decreased immunity: When the body's immune system weakens, its resistance to pathogens declines, making infections more likely and increasing the risk of cholecystenteritis.
