Why does the stomach often feel bloated?
I have been experiencing some stomach discomfort recently, often feeling bloated and very uncomfortable. May I ask what could be causing this?
Stomach bloating is a common digestive discomfort characterized primarily by a feeling of fullness in the abdomen, increased belching, or flatulence. This condition is usually caused by various factors:
1. Eating habits: Eating too quickly, insufficient chewing, consuming high-fiber foods, carbonated beverages, legumes, onions, garlic, and other gas-producing foods, as well as excessive alcohol or caffeine intake, may all increase gas production in the gastrointestinal tract.
2. Gastrointestinal diseases: Conditions such as gastric ulcers or duodenal bulb ulcers may lead to pyloric obstruction, preventing food from emptying properly and causing stomach bloating.
3. Deficiency of digestive enzymes: When the body lacks sufficient digestive enzymes, food is not completely broken down, which can easily lead to bloating.
4. Mental stress: Prolonged mental tension, anxiety, or depression can affect the autonomic nervous system, thereby influencing gastrointestinal motility and enzyme secretion, leading to stomach bloating.
5. Lifestyle habits: Irregular eating patterns, overeating, eating too quickly, and lack of physical activity can all contribute to stomach bloating.
If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical consultation is recommended.
