The differences between Dan Zhi Xiao Yao Wan and Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan are as follows:

1. Different ingredients: Dan Zhi Xiao Yao Wan includes two additional herbs, Salvia miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen) and Gardenia jasminoides (Zhi Zi), making its composition more diverse. Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan mainly contains Bupleurum (Chai Hu), Paeonia (Bai Shao), Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), Atractylodes macrocephala (Chao Bai Zhu), Poria (Fu Ling), Glycyrrhiza (Gan Cao), and other herbs.

2. Different therapeutic effects: Based on relieving liver qi stagnation, Dan Zhi Xiao Yao Wan adds functions of clearing heat and cooling the blood, making it suitable for symptoms such as liver qi stagnation with fire transformation, irritability, and insomnia. Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan is primarily used to treat symptoms caused by liver qi stagnation with blood deficiency and impaired spleen function, such as irregular menstruation, breast distension and pain, chest tightness, and discomfort.

3. Applicable populations: Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan is more suitable for individuals with liver qi stagnation with blood deficiency and spleen deficiency with poor appetite; Dan Zhi Xiao Yao Wan is more appropriate for individuals with liver qi stagnation transforming into fire and excessive heart fire.

4. Symptom relief: Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan primarily alleviates emotional depression, chest tightness, and breast distension and pain. Dan Zhi Xiao Yao Wan can relieve symptoms related to excessive heat, such as irritability, insomnia, and bitter taste in the mouth.

5. Medication precautions: Both require attention to the patient's constitution and condition during use. However, due to its heat-clearing and blood-cooling properties, Dan Zhi Xiao Yao Wan should be used cautiously in individuals with weak constitution or cold deficiency of the spleen and stomach.

Medication should be taken under the guidance of a qualified physician. If discomfort occurs, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
