The Dangers of Skipping Breakfast for a Long Time
I personally belong to the group that often skips breakfast for a long time, and I am frequently advised by my family. I really want to know, what are the health risks associated with regularly skipping breakfast over a long period?
The main harms of long-term breakfast skipping include the following:
1. Malnutrition: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Long-term skipping leads to insufficient nutrient intake, affecting physical health and causing symptoms such as hypoglycemia, dizziness, and fatigue. In severe cases, it may even impair brain function and lead to memory decline.
2. Increased disease risk: Skipping breakfast is associated with a higher risk of various diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. Long-term breakfast skipping causes blood sugar instability and affects normal insulin secretion, thus increasing the risk of diabetes. Meanwhile, skipping breakfast may also lead to excessive food intake at lunch and dinner, increasing the risks of obesity and cardiovascular disease.
3. Impaired digestive health: Long-term breakfast skipping affects the normal function of the gastrointestinal tract. Excessive secretion of gastric acid may damage the gastric mucosa, increasing the risk of digestive system diseases such as gastritis and gastric ulcer. In addition, skipping breakfast may also cause bile stasis, increasing the risk of gallstones.
4. Impaired mental state: Skipping breakfast leads to insufficient energy supply, affecting mental state and causing fatigue, inattention, memory decline, and other symptoms. Long-term skipping may also affect work efficiency and quality of life.
