Pain in the back of the head may be caused by various factors, including but not limited to the following:

1. Non-disease factors: such as excessive fatigue, mental tension, stress, insufficient sleep, and prolonged late-night activities. These factors may prevent the brain from adequately resting, thereby causing pain in the back of the head. Improving lifestyle habits and ensuring sufficient sleep and rest can help alleviate this type of pain.

2. Disease-related factors:

High blood pressure: When blood pressure remains persistently higher than normal, the increased pressure within cerebral blood vessels can cause pain in the back of the head. Antihypertensive treatment should be conducted under a doctor's guidance.

Neurological headaches: Including occipital neuralgia, which may be triggered by mental stress or emotional upset, manifesting as persistent dull pain and pressure in the head. Treatment involves relaxation and appropriate medication under medical supervision.

Cervical spondylosis: Herniated or degenerative cervical discs may cause vertebral artery spasm during neck movement, leading to impaired blood flow and resulting in pain in the back of the head. Treatment options include cervical traction, physical therapy, and medication.

3. Other diseases: Conditions such as migraine, vascular neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, cerebrovascular disease, otitis media, cerebral atherosclerosis, and brain tumors may also cause pain in the back of the head.

4. Trauma-related factors: Pain may also result from impacts or injuries to the back of the head. Severe cases may be accompanied by local soft tissue contusions or fractures.

If the pain is frequent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms, prompt medical attention is advised.
