What should be noted after transurethral resection of bladder cancer?
I have been diagnosed with bladder cancer and have already undergone transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). I am currently in the postoperative recovery phase. I would like to ask, what should I pay attention to during this period?
After undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumor, patients should pay attention to the following aspects:
1. Urinary care: A urinary catheter may be required for a period after surgery. It is important to maintain the cleanliness and patency of the catheter to avoid infection. Replace the urine bag regularly and follow the doctor's instructions for bladder irrigation.
2. Balanced diet: Patients may drink water in moderation after six hours post-surgery if there is no nausea or vomiting. Normal diet can be resumed after one to two days. It is recommended to consume more high-protein, nutrient-rich foods, such as eggs and milk, to enhance physical immunity. At the same time, avoid eating spicy, irritating, or preserved foods, as they may affect wound healing.
3. Activity and rest: Appropriate physical activity can promote blood circulation and prevent thrombosis, but patients should avoid strenuous exercise and lifting heavy objects, which may increase abdominal pressure and affect wound healing.
4. Symptom monitoring: Be aware of symptoms such as fever, frequent urination, urgency, or painful urination, which may indicate infection or other complications. Seek medical attention promptly if these symptoms occur.
5. Regular follow-up: Follow the doctor's instructions to attend regular follow-up appointments at the hospital to monitor recovery progress and receive timely bladder instillation therapy to prevent disease recurrence.
